FAQ
What makes a swim school different from recreational swimming?
A swim school provides structured lessons with clear goals, professional guidance, and progression plans. Unlike casual swimming, lessons focus on building safety, technique, and water confidence. This approach ensures swimmers develop long-term skills instead of just familiarity with the water.
How often should children attend a swim school?
Weekly lessons are often recommended to maintain consistency and build muscle memory. Regular attendance helps children grow more confident and progress through skills at a steady pace. Taking long breaks can make children less comfortable in the water when they return.
Can adults benefit from joining a swim school?
Absolutely. Swim schools provide supportive classes for adults who want to learn for the first time or improve existing skills. With patient instruction and structured programs, adults can overcome nerves, refine technique, and build fitness in the pool.
When are swimming lessons available?
Swimming lessons are available throughout the week, with class times varying depending on age, ability and demand.
SwimCare Moonee operates year-round, with the office generally open from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm weekdays and 9:00 am – 12:00 pm Saturdays. Lessons are offered across a range of times to suit different ages and abilities.
Please note that lesson availability and timetables may vary throughout the year. Contact our friendly team to discuss current class availability and suitable lesson times.
What age can swimming lessons start?
Babies can begin swimming lessons from 3 months of age. SwimCare offers programs for babies, children, Squad swimmers and adults, with classes available for a wide range of ages and abilities.
Our friendly team can help recommend the most suitable class based on age, swimming ability and previous experience.
How do I know what class is appropriate for my child?
Our friendly team can help determine the most suitable class based on your child's age, swimming ability and previous experience.
Where required, we may recommend a trial lesson to ensure your child is placed into the most suitable class and level. As skills develop and milestones are achieved, swimmers progress through the SwimCare program at a pace suited to their individual development.
What should I bring to swimming classes?
To ensure that you or your child have the most comfortable and enjoyable experience possible, we recommend bringing the following items to class:
- Swimwear – suitable for swimming lessons
- Towel – for drying off after class
- Goggles – recommended for most classes
- Water bottle – to stay hydrated
- Change of clothes – for after the lesson
- Swim nappy – required for babies, toddlers and any child who is not yet toilet trained
Swimming caps can also be helpful for swimmers with longer hair, while swimming ear plugs may assist those who are prone to getting water in their ears.
How often should I take classes?
For most swimmers, one lesson per week provides a solid foundation for learning and progression. Consistent attendance helps swimmers build confidence, develop skills and retain what they have learned from previous lessons.
Some swimmers may choose to attend additional lessons to accelerate their progress or work towards specific goals, however regular weekly attendance is sufficient for most swimmers.
